Is Max the same as HBO Max? ›

What's the difference between Max and HBO Max? On May 23rd, HBO Max is becoming Max. Max will be the streaming home of HBO; plus, there will be an even deeper library of shows to stream, including new-to-you reality, lifestyle, food, and true crime series.

HBO Max, now known simply as Max, is a subscription streaming service that delivers movies and TV series from HBO, Warner Bros. and more. Plans range from $9.99 to $19.99 per month, though annual pricing is also available.

You can sign up for Max right now through the Max website. The service is also available through partner platforms like Prime Video and Hulu.

If you subscribe to HBO through one of the providers below, you may get access to a Max plan at no extra cost! Max subscription plans vary, so check with your provider to confirm your plan access. What's the cheapest way to get HBO Max? ›

Max has three tiers of pricing: a cheaper ad-supported plan that discounts the price of a Max subscription to just $9.99 a month, an ad-free plan for $15. 99 each month, and an “Ultimate Ad-Free” plan for $19.99 a month.

Warner Discovery wants to solidify their disparate brands, including HBO, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, and Discovery into a single streaming service, and they chose “Max”, a reference to their secondary cable pay TV offering “Cinemax” that isn't as iconic as HBO.
