MARGARET M. APPEL

CUMBERLAND - Margaret Manning Appel, 80, of Columbia Avenue, Cumberland, died Wednesday, June 4, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 23, 1916, in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William Myrtle and Bertha (Minnick) Myrtle.

Mrs. Appel was Methodist by faith.

Surviving are her husband, Richard Louis Appel; two daughters, Joan Kennell, Cumberland, and Rosella Anderson, Johnstown, Pa.; ten grandchildren, Kathy Kennell and Leo Kennell, both of Cumberland, Barbara McKinnon, England, George Nairn, Richmond, Va., Beverly Kegley, Johnstown, Pa., Jeffery Anderson, David Anderson, Blaine E. Anderson, Andy Anderson, and Bill Anderson, all of Johnstown, Pa.; a number of great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. only.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Young, Leo Kennell, Raymond Washington III, Andy Anderson, Jeffery Anderson, and Blaine E. Anderson.

NANCY WILSON ARBOGAST

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Nancy Wilson Arbogast, 73, of Harrisonburg, died Dec. 6, 1997, at her home.

Mrs. Arbogast was born July 27, 1924, at Cumberland, and was the daughter of the late George Bernard and Eleanor Neff Wilson.

She graduated from high school in Maryland and retired from the Virginia Department of Agriculture in Harrisonburg.

She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church.

On July 16, 1949, she married W. Royce Arbogast, who died Aug. 16, 1993.

She is survived by two sons, Kelly Clark Arbogast, Terry Mark Arbogast, both of Harrisonburg; daughter, Dixie Gayle Arbogast, Harrisonburg; sister, Gladys Broadwater, Frostburg; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at the Mausoleum at East Lawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg. The Reverends Doug Hill, James N. John, and Joseph D. Carson will conduct the service.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Kyger and Trobaugh Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Friends may also call at the Arbogast home at any time.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 185 Ashby St., Harrisonburg, VA 22801; or to the Rockingham-Harrisonburg S.P.C.A., P.O. Box 413, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.

The casket will not be open.

OMA ELLEN (DEBERRY) ARMBRUSTER

CUMBERLAND - Oma Ellen DeBerry Armbruster, 81, of Cumberland Nursing Home, died Saturday, May 31, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.

Born July 24, 1915, in Deer Park, she was the daughter of the late James Allen and Martha Ellen (Kidd) DeBerry.

She also was preceded in death by her husband Frederick William Armbruster in 1966; one son, Roger DeBerry in 1960; three brothers; and one sister.

Mrs. Armbruster was a clerk at Storer Brother's.

Surviving are four daughters, Martha Rowe and husband Roger, LaVale, Kathleen Valentine and husband Mike, Cumberland, Mrs. Ellen Fisher, and Mrs. Henrietta Probst; one sister, Madesta DeBerry and husband Harvey, Dade City, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Jewell officiating.

Interment will be in Deer Park Cemetery.

LOLA I. ARNOLD

SHORT GAP, W.Va. - Lola Imogene Arnold, 70, of Short Gap, died Saturday, May 10, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Born Oct. 12, 1926, in Mineral County, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Blanche (Biser) Spencer.

She also was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Wayne Arnold; one brother, Arnold Spencer; and two sisters, Edna Wagoner, Helen Brown and Hazel Spencer.

Mrs. Arnold was retired from Sacred Heart Hospital, where she had worked in the housekeeping department.

She was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women for more than 50 years, and was past president of the organization. She also was a member of the Short Gap Senior Citizens.

Surviving are five children, Kenneth Wayne Arnold and wife Sandy, Luling, La., Imogene F. Chaney and husband Ray, Short Gap, Leon Arnold and wife Shirley, Rawlings, Md., Shelia Houdersheldt and husband R. Wayne, Old Furnace Road, and Connie Grady and husband Dale, Fort Ashby; one brother, Ervin Spencer, Short Gap; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Fred Siple, Fort Ashby.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The service will be held at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Burke and the Rev. T. Gregory Lewis officiating.

The body will be taken to the church at noon.

Interment will be in the Fort Ashby Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross Blood Service, 307 Vine St., Johnstown, PA 15901.

PHYLLIS JEAN ARNOLD

MOUNTAIN LAKE PARK, Md. - Phyllis Jean Arnold, 62, of 219 G St., Mountain Lake Park, died on Friday, May 2, 1997, at West Virginia University Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

Born April 21, 1935, in Kempton, Md., she was the daughter of the late Ronald Wotring and Josephine (Turek) Wotring.

Mrs. Arnold was a bookkeeper for Arnold Brothers Equipment and a member of the Oak Park Church of the Brethren.

She is survived by her husband, Clayton R. Arnold; one son, Ronald Arnold and wife Lisa, Oakland; one daughter, Denise McFarland and husband Kenneth ``Pete'', Grantsville; two brothers, Robert Wotring, Warren, Mich., and Allen Wotring, Reisterstown; two sisters, Sandra Ferguson, Standardsville, Va., and Karen Upole, Oakland; and one granddaughter, Misty McFarland.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Oak Park Church of the Brethren on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mel Menker officiating.

Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to the Oak Park Church of the Brethren.

ARNOLD M. ARNONE

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Arnold M. Arnone, 67, of Charleston, formerly of Frostburg, died Tuesday, May 6, 1997, in a Charleston hospital.

Born Sept. 21, 1929, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Michael Arnone and Lucy (Fabbri) Arnone.

Mr. Arnone was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Charleston.

He graduated from high school and attended Catherman's Business School, Cumberland. He was a former manager with several Charleston area businesses: Tri-State Discount Center, Harris Drugs, and Edward's and Taylor's Frozen Foods. He was a substitute teacher with Charleston County Schools; past president of the North Charleston Civitan Club; and vice-president of the Lenevar Civic Club.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Virginia (Clark) Arnone, Charleston; one son, Alan Arnone, Charleston; one daughter, Ann Moore, Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, James Arnone, Frostburg, and Samuel Arnone, Joppa; three sisters, Rose McKenzie, Frostburg, Joan Brewer, Hagerstown, and Linda Arnone, Charleston; and three grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. only.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Byrnes as celebrant.

Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens.

GROVER O. ARONHALT

ROMNEY, W.Va. - Grover Owens LeMoine Aronhalt, 76, of Romney, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Monday, March 24, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born March 2, 1921, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Wilbur S. and Mamie (Norris) Aronhalt. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Wilbur Aronhalt.

Mr. Aronhalt was a retired commercial representative for the Potomac Edison Co. after 42 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served as a first sergeant in the European Theater of Operations; he received the Bronze Star. He was a 50 year member of Ali Ghan Shrine Club and East Gate Lodge 216 AF&AM. He was a member of Scottish Rite Bodies; the Romney VFW Post 1101; and the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Alice Aronhalt; one daughter, Bette L. Welch and husband Dustin, Oakland; one sister, Mary Aronhalt, Cumberland; and several nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

A memorial service will be conducted by East Gate Lodge at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor John D. Wardrope officiating.

Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone.

Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners' Children's Hospitals, care of Ali Ghan Shrine, PO Box 1416, Cumberland, MD 21502.

REBECCA D. ARONHALT

ELK GARDEN, W.Va. - Rebecca Dawn Aronhalt, 23, of Elk Garden, died Sunday, June 29, 1997, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.

Born Sept. 26, 1973, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of Vernon J. and Norma (Close) Aronhalt.

Surviving are five brothers, Vernon Jr., Gary, Terry and Kevin, all of Elk Garden, and David Aronhalt, Keyser; four sisters, Debbie Sites and Kathy Parril, Keyser, Angela Aronhalt and Kay McRobie, Elk Garden.

The body is at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, where friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Nethkin Hill Methodist Church, on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Leslie Hipp officiating.

Interment will be in the Kalbaugh Cemetery.
