This is the bathroom that my children are currently using.

We have a simple and clean setup, the Montessori way.

We got them:

  • a wooden learning towerChore Charts for Multiple Children {Free Printables} - The Natural Homeschool (3)
  • a timer with buttons for washing hands and brushing teeth
  • the printable chore charts included in this post
  • a soap pump that is easy to use
  • a small cup
  • a special hand towel right by the sink
  • nice and simple decorations for the sink top and walls (these are completely optional)

I keep decorations to a minimum at this point in their development, but certainly add a nice touch of beauty.

Kids Chore System

Here is a close-up of the charts that I made and that you can download and print for free in this post.

The one on the left is for my 4-year old because she can’t read yet.

The real photos help her visualize the chores since she isn’t reading fluently yet.

The chore chart on the right is for older children (that can read proficiently because they have no photos).

It’s a great multiple child chore chart template for you to use!

My son uses this chart. He is six years old and can read well.

I give them dry erase crayonsChore Charts for Multiple Children {Free Printables} - The Natural Homeschool (5) to check their chores off as they complete them because I laminated them for easy reuse.

You can see our handy timerChore Charts for Multiple Children {Free Printables} - The Natural Homeschool (6) at the bottom of her chore chart.

It has a button with the picture of a hand (timer for washing hands) and a button with the picture of a tooth (timer for how long to brush teeth).

When you press a button, the light at the bottom starts blinking green and as time runs out, it starts blinking faster until it turns red.

The hand button lasts 1 minute and the tooth button lasts two.

I highly recommend it because children don’t really know for how long to wash and brush before they’re truly clean.

Printable Picture Chore Cards

Both charts have the same chores to teach your kids, just one has visuals for younger kids and the one with text only for older children that can read well.

And I also made matching printable chore cards for our learning lesson.

They are fantastic because they match perfectly the visual chore chart.

The chores included cover two rooms in the house: the bedroom and the bathroom.

I like it that they complete the chores in one room before moving to the other room.

You can also laminate them for durability, especially if using with multiple children.

The chores for the bathroom include:

  • wash your hands
  • wash your face
  • floss your teeth
  • brush your teeth
  • brush your hair
  • flush

The chores for the bedroom include:

  • make your bed
  • get dressed
  • put my clothes away
  • put my toys away

The learning cards can be used as Montessori at Home 3-part cards or simply as flashcards.

The point of them is to use the cards to talk about each chore, do it with them, showing them step by step on how to practice good hygiene.

You could even do some of the activities in THIS POSTto learn about germs and how to keep clean.
