Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dessert Wontons Recipe (1)

A while back I asked you all what kind of recipes you couldn’t get enough of.

It was almost overwhelming how many requests I got for sweets, treats, and “anything with sugar!”

Peas and Crayons is all about the veggies… but nevertheless I wanted to put a smile on your sweet faces for being so amazingly supportive of me and for just overall brightening my day. So I set off to bake something fun, something interesting, and something that I could make without setting the oven (or myself!) on fire…

BRING ON THE COOKIE DOUGH!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dessert Wontons

This recipe makes anywhere from 6-20 dessert wontons – I made 6 and the cookie dough magically disappeared when Paul got home. He may or may not have been found hugging the ball of cookie dough in bliss. I may or may not have joined him in eating it.

It was magical.

They’re a super close copycat to the restaurant I’m copycatting, but theyfried the won-tons. Noooot on this blog, buddy! Let’s faux-fry them, shall we? I have an awesome baking technique up my sleeve!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup flour
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup butter; softened
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar
  • cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp So Delicious Coconut Milk or Creamer
  • 1 cup of Hersey's Special Dark chocolate chips
  • 20 Nasoya wonton wrappers (or less if you plan on eating half the dough. *ahem!*)
  • powdered sugar + extra chocolate chips for topping
  • olive oil cooking spray

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375F.

  • Combine flour and salt in a small bowl.

  • Using an electric mixer, cream softened butter (alone) until light and fluffy. Add brown sugar, granulated sugar, and vanilla to butter. Beat well.

  • Add coconut milk (or cream) to mixture slowly while beating. Next slowly add the flour while mixing.

  • Stir in chocolate chips + viola! Cookie dough!

  • Back off the cookie dough! Make sure some of it actually makes it into the wontons or you can scratch the entire project right off the bat and sit down on the couch with your marvelous creation. But at least make a couple wontons... They're fun and crunchy!

  • If you want a cookie-doughy centerrefrigeratethe cookie dough for 15-30 minutes before baking. For a warm cookie dough center, simply assemble and bake.

  • To prep the wonton wrappers, lay flat and moisten fingers with water. It helps to have a little cup of water handy while assembling the wontons.

  • Run your finger along two sides of the wrapper to moisten, and add a small dollop of cookie dough to the center of the wonton.

  • Fold into a triangle and press, the thin layer of water should act like a glue and help you press the edges into little pouches.

  • Seal em up and pop them on a wire grilling rack, cooling rack, or whatever else they call the sheet below. Haha! If you don't have one, know that they areabsolutelygenius and you should totally start stalking amazon.com for one =) True story.

  • My favorite technique ever for crispyveggie "fries",mozzarella balls, and crispy wontons is to layer a wire grilling rack onto a foil lined cookie pan. Its like pizza... if you want a crispy crust, you toss it right on the rack, right? Same concept... Same glorious results.

  • Brushing the wontons with butter or olive oil will work, but the crispiest, most evenly golden results were achieved with a super light spritz of the spray. Luckily there are natural ones available, just read your labels to make sure you're getting the "good stuff!"

  • After spraying, bake for 10-12 minutes or until gorgeously golden brown.

  • Melt a few chocolate chips and drizzle over the wontons + dust with powdered sugar for a pretty snazzy dessert.
