I'd like to begin by saying my twin boys just turned 6 months old this week.
They are not yet sitting on their own independently. They have good head control though and do sit in their high chairs belted in quite well. And do reach for my food and my plate so they are interested.

I am being told to begin solids with them. I'd like to begin baby led weaning although I don't know where to begin and whether my babies are ready for it. I offered some purees to them and they spit it up all up 30 mins after eating. I decided to try a silicone feeder and that worked well, but still spit it up.
They have been mostly breastfed. They took formula from a bottle for the first 2 months and now has zero interest in a bottle.

With my eldest I began solids later at 9 months old. I just loved nursing him. This time I feel like I have to get them to get solids sooner because 1) they are biting me, 2) I have to return to work when they are a year old and I want them to be good eaters and they need to take a bottle/sippy cup sooner then my son needed to, he entered daycare at 18 months. I'm wondering should I even bother with the bottle or being trying a sippy cup this late in the game.

I have avent philips natural bottle with nipple sizes 1-5. I haven't tried the 3-5 nipples yet that was something I was gonna try.

Any advice on baby led weaning & getting babies to take sippy cup/bottle?

I would skip the sippy cup and go straight to a straw. You can teach them how to use a straw using the Honey Bear cup. My daughter went straight from a bottle/breast combo to a straw cup and it was great. Plan to do the same for my twins.

As far as baby led weaning goes, I used Solid Starts as my primary reference and it went great! They have an Instagram page with tons of info, a free app that breaks down how you should prepare food based on their age (it also has a subscription you can buy that allows you to track things, but I didn’t find that necessary). They also have a website with tons of info and guides to help you figure out what foods to introduce to baby and when.

How far apart are you spacing the solid feeding and milk feeding ? Maybe they are over eating and spiting it up.

It could also just be your kids aren’t ready and interested in solids yet. Some kids starting taking solids at an older age. Most use four to six months as age to start solids, but some kids start taking it later than this.

Something to keep in mind is that the first year of life for kids milk is main source of food and nutrition. Yes, solids often do help kids fill up and lead to little less milk drinking but still solids don’t fully replace milk.

@nrumman,

I think you touched on the biggest point of starting solids. The point is to introduce them to new flavors and textures and to improve dexterity. The milk is still the most important part. It’s doesn’t need to be over complicated. I just let them try new foods each meal and no matter what: expect a huge mess
